Pan Fried Yams

This pan fried yams recipe is simple to make and is quick to prepare. White yams can be found in West Indian or Caribbean grocery stores.

3 large sweet white yams

3 tablespoons vegetable oil

3 tablespoons of unsalted butter

1 teaspoon of powdered allspice

Salt and pepper

Preheat your oven to 400. Make slits into the yams. Brush the yams with 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Bake in the oven for thirty minutes. Take the yams out of the oven and set aside to cool. Slice the yams into 1-inch slices. Sprinkle the slices with 1 teaspoon of allspice.

In a large skillet, melt the unsalted butter and remaining vegetable oil over medium heat. Place the yams into the pan and fry until golden brown for about five minutes on each side. Season the fried yams with salt and pepper.
