Cookbook Review Make It Super Simple
In G. Garvin’s latest cookbook “Make It Super Simple” the chef, author and TV host of “Turn Up The Heat With G. Garvin” on TV One, promises quick family meals. From my point of view, the book is geared towards busy lifestyles, and is for people who want delicious meals with variety and flavor, that he delivers wonderfully. It is a great book to have added to your library. The cookbook has some traditional soul food recipes but he adds his own flavor to make them unique. There is a wide collection of recipes you will definitely want to try at home. I tested quite a few of his dishes and was pleasantly satisfied with the end results. On page 19 he has a simple “Deep Dish Beef Pie” recipe that is quick to make. The recipe incorporates using already made pie shells you get conveniently from the supermarket and requires you to make a quick meat mixture with flavorful everyday seasonings. This delicious meat pie reminded me of a beef patty popular in the Caribbean but flavored with Mexican seasonings. Just cut and serve with a side salad or vegetable and you have dinner. Two other recipes I’ve personally tried are “Corn Pudding” on page 100 and on page 77 “Spicy Crab And Corn Chowder”. The “Corn Pudding” recipe is super simple to make, as Chef Garvin would say. If you’re looking for a different way of serving corn as a side dish, this recipe will not disappoint. The end result is a slightly sweet taste with custard like finish. This dish is quick to make, but requires over an hour to cook in the oven but is definitely worth the wait. The Spicy Crab and Corn Chowder recipe was also a delight to make. I did not use crabmeat called for in the recipe, but used shrimp to replace. This tasty recipe includes spicy andouille sausage, potatoes and heavy cream. Although this particular recipe is not on the lean side, he does offer a good amount of other recipes in the book geared towards a healthier lifestyle. “Make It Super Simple” will delight you with wonderful recipes you will want to create for your family or even guests coming to your home. The recipes are easy to make but will also make an impression on your family and friends. To get a copy of this book to add to your collection, click on the above banner.
